What Does A Taxi Driver Do?
Taxi drivers are considered experts of the road. They pretty much have an idea of congested areas at a specific time and know which roads to take and which ones to avoid. Their main goal is to make sure their passengers arrive safely and in time to their destinations. Taxi drivers who do their job well receive a lot of compliments and generous tips from passengers.
1. Transport passengers.
A taxi driver can choose to where to pick up passengers. It could be in hotels, schools, offices, shopping malls, or in airports. As soon as the passenger gets inside the cab, without hesitations, the driver is responsible to bring them to their destinations.
When a taxi driver feels unsafe with his passengers, he can alert other taxi drivers by using the GPS system or drive to the nearest police station. Most reported cases involve passengers who do not pay fare and robbery.
2. Act as tour guides.
When a passenger is new in town or a tourist in the city, a taxi driver could act as a tourist guide. He can take passengers sightseeing, tell them about significant events in the city and can suggest great places to stay, dine and have a good time.
When dealing with tourists, taxi drivers are required to inform them of how taxi meters in the US operate. It may not be the same in all countries. Tell your passengers how much the initial fee is, the rate per mile and waiting time charge.
3. Assist in emergencies when no other public transportation is available.
If you have to be somewhere in the middle of the night, or something urgent comes up, riding a taxi cab is your best option. If you do not have your own car, you can call a cab company and ask them to pick you up. Taxi fleets operate 24 hours a day and is just a call away.
We see a lot of movies with cab driver characters and they appear to have a great time. While it has possible risks, we can’t take away the fact that being a taxi driver is a fun and interesting job.
