What Does A Librarian Do?
The main role of librarians is to provide librarianship, research services and maintains the organization and effectiveness of the library, its collections and resources. Their tasks are very varied, that will require you to have a remarkable knowledge in new information resources, administrative duties and technical skills.
- The most prominent job of a librarian is to keep track of the books borrowed; making sure everything is returned and noted.
- Librarians teach and assists students, teachers and individuals where to look for information, whether from a computer database or a book.
- They are also responsible in maintaining a friendly and welcoming environment conducive for learning.
What a librarian does may also vary depending on the type of librarianship they work.
Academic Librarians- An academic librarian may have different task such as working in the reference desk, creating catalogs for books and material, assist and implement bibliographic instructions as a resource person, work in partnership with staff concerning academic curriculum advancements.
- They are also responsible for the collection of resources and databases that will support the methodologies and philosophies specific for a college or university.
School Librarians
- A school librarian also acts like teachers. They are in charge in supporting the intellectual needs of students, maintain and provide instructions as a resource person for students and teachers.
- Librarians of this area cater all age groups. They provide and promote the enjoyment of reading appropriate for all type of individuals.
- They select materials such as books, videotapes, audio, films, computer database, and documents that will make best use as resources for the public users.
Special Librarians
- Special media specialists are responsible for managing a library intended for commercial, government or industrial organizations.
- They select literatures and materials appropriate for their specialty or department, which includes law, art, business or medical librarianship.
