Marriage counselors were earning an average of $50,770 a year and $48,220 for those who worked for the local government. Counselors working for a community mental health institution received a salary ranging from $31,416 to $59,912, $28,087 to $63,624 in counseling firms and $38,190 to $47,699 for those in health clinics.
Some marriage counselors who were self-employed and had well-established practices usually have the highest earning; Payscale stated they were receiving from $35,000 to over a $100,000 a year.
