How Much Does A Yoga Instructor Make?
Yoga instructors teach in random places depending on the students’ preference. There are those who choose to have yoga lessons at home, in studios or in ashrams. Working as a yoga instructor can be a part-time or full-time job. The income of yoga instructors varies depending on who they work for, number of students and how often classes are being held. Though, most people interested in this career would like to know - how much does a yoga instructor make?
Yoga instructors who work on a per-class basis can earn $50-$75 per session in some uptown cities. Experienced and popular instructors who teach privately earn as much as $100 per session.
Yoga studios have full-time instructors who are paid monthly. There are also those who work with yoga training schools and earn either in an hourly or per-class basis. Before working for any school or studio, make sure to clarify your employment status which includes:
- Working hours.
It is important to ask if you are hired as a part-time or full-time instructor to prevent any conflicts. Most studios require at least 8-12 classes per week. You also have to know if you are required to be traveling to a client’s or student’s home for yoga sessions, etc.
- Yoga Styles to Teach.
Yoga studios in the US have yoga specialties, such as bikram yoga. As an instructor, you should know if you are required to teach all styles or a specific yoga style.
- Duration of each class
Another important factor of working as a yoga instructor is how long each class takes. Yoga classes are designated by levels and they differ in duration.
- Number of students
The number of students in a class should be carefully considered since yoga classes require a lot of concentration and meditation. Most yoga instructors prefer to work with small class sizes.
According to the US Department of Labor as of 2010, yoga instructors earn an average of $14.95 per hour and $31,090 annually.
