To be a veterinary technician, you have to take a veterinary technology program and obtain either an associate or bachelor’s degree in colleges accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association. The associate degree is strictly for the title veterinary technician only, while the bachelor’s degree is for veterinary technologist – a person who can work as an animal nurse and can also work in research project like biomedical research, medicine, etc. The associate degree takes two years to complete, while bachelor takes four years. After finishing the program, the next step is to take the licensure exam. If you pass, you are now veterinary technician.
